Welcome to Tintswalo Atlantic , The Robben Island Suite pays tribute to South Africa’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela, who was imprisoned on Robben Island for nearly 24 years. It serves as a quirky yet poignant reminder of South Africa’s transition and the legacy left by Madiba for our nation.
The design inspiration comes from the people who lived on Robben Island thousands of years ago when the sea channel between the island and the Cape mainland was not covered with water. Since the Dutch settled at the Cape in the mid-1600s, Robben Island has primarily been used as a prison.
